The South Burlington City Council has defeated an interim zoning moratorium proposal by a 3-2 vote. The proposal would have banned new construction in certain sectors of the city for two years. NVBR, in partnership with the Home Builders and Remodelers Association (HBRA) supported a grassroots efforts campaign to bring to light the ramifications of the potential moratorium.
Seen as a victory for housing and the economy it was a contentious discussion before the final vote. Well over 100 people turned out at the last public meeting, most to voice their opposition to this proposal, and City Councilors received over 89 written comments.
Housing is the backbone of the economy, and when local initiatives like these arise, NVBR is there through our legislative and regulatory partnership with the HBRA. Whether it's publicly voicing concerns through opinion-editorials and letters, mailing over 9,000 postcards to residents to alert them to the issue, or rallying our members, NVBR will be there to work tirelessly on behalf of our members and the real estate industry.
