Demystifying FEMA and Floodplain Maps (2CE)

Learn about the ins and outs of flood hazard and river corridor maps with Rebecca Pfeiffer from the VT DEC Rivers Program. Rebecca will demonstrate how to access and interpret map data, understand NFIP insurance requirements, municipal and state regulations, flood mitigation opportunities for buildings and strategies to help communities reduce losses from flooding and channel erosion.

About Our Instructor
Rebecca J. Pfeiffer is the Floodplain Regulatory Team Lead at the VT Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) Rivers Program. She works with landowners, municipalities, regional planning commissions, NGOs, and agencies of state and federal government to reduce flood risk by protecting and restoring natural and beneficial river and floodplain functions. Rebecca provides assistance to communities concerning Act 250, the National Flood Insurance Program and river corridor regulations. Her region covers the northwestern part of the state. She has worked with the ANR for 10 years in different parts of the floodplain management program.
